You can take the family out of the city, but you don’t have to take the city out of the family. Determined to bring their urban sensibilities with them when moving to the suburbs from Boston’s South End, this family of four - plus a new puppy - chose a 2014 classic stone and cedar shingled beauty by Patrick Ahearn as their new home base.
The Reider + Co Team created a soft modern interior design concept that complements the more traditional New England exterior by choosing fixtures, finishes, and furnishings that spoke to our clients’ sophisticated style. Sunbrella fabrics, faux leathers, and washable textiles were used with everyday living and family-friendly practicality in mind. A color palette of blues, greens, and purples creates a cohesive interior, with bold hues taking center stage in lively spaces like the family room and more subdued shades quieting the bedrooms.

I have followed her work for years and always admired her vast portfolio from afar, on Instagram and through local Boston design magazines. Then 6 months ago we moved from the South End to Wellesley and decided that we needed some professional help getting settled. Our Patrick Ahearn home exuded traditional New England character on the outside, but the interior finishes were a bit rustic for our taste and we had rooms to fill. Rachel and her team listened to our likes/dislikes, we discussed our overall vision for the home, practical concerns with two young children and a puppy, and then they were off and running sourcing fabrics and furniture. Everything came together so quickly and so beautifully that we are still in awe of how designers do what they do. We look forward to completing the basement level and outdoor spaces in the next year or two so that they are up to snuff with the rest of the house.
