Set in the heart of historic Kennebunkport, Maine, the Captain Fairfield Inn is designed in keeping with the grand heritage of the 1813 Federal-style mansion while also incorporating the luxuries a modern traveler desires and expects in a relaxing seaside get-away. After running the inn for several years, the owners understood that while travellers love the personal and unique experience a bed and breakfast offers over a larger hotel, they did not love the old fashioned furnishings and lace details. My work on the Inn began with a goal to create an environment that respects the home's rich history while giving the interior a distinctly more modern look and feel. Many original details of this home, such as wide plank pine floors and elegant period moldings, have been carefully preserved for guests to appreciate for years to come. Gone are the staid old furnishings and lace accessories, and in their place, guests will now find sophisticated color palettes, a diverse array of patterns, and rich textures; a chic and eclectic mix of old meets new. By taking classical forms and patterns and reinventing them in a soft yet modern way, we have created the ultimate boutique experience within this iconic beachside town.
